The
organizations receiving the latest Foundation grants
June 18, 2008 are:
· Friends of Expo Center -- $500,000 - to
help complete a multi-million dollar renovation
of the recreation facilities in Expo Park. The grant
will be used to build a state-of-the-art multiuse
sports field for thousands of youth participating
in a variety of field sports.
· A Better LA -- $100,000 - a non-profit
co-founded by USC football coach Pete Carroll and
Lou and Diane Tice of The Pacific Institute. The
funding will be used to hire the sports staff to
run sports activities for an eight-week pilot program
being launched by the mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction
and Youth Development this summer, in partnership
with the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation
and Parks, Los Angeles Police Department and Department
of Cultural Affairs
· East Los Angeles Community Youth Center (ELACYC)
-- $40,442 - grant will help pay for personnel,
athlete expenses and equipment for the ELACYC’s
aquatics, basketball and boxing programs.
· Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times -- $28,450
- the grant will help fund its popular equestrian
program which gives youth a heightened sense of
accomplishment and self-esteem by learning how to
ride and care for horses.
· San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation (SDASF)
-- $25,000 - the funding will cover personnel,
athlete expenses and equipment for SDASF’s youth
basketball, rugby and tennis programs which enable
every youngster to realize some level of personal
success by accommodating all abilities.
· Special Olympics - Southern California -- $30,000
- in partnership with Los Angles Unified School
District (LAUSD), is offering track and field, soccer
and basketball curricula at 14 LAUSD schools for
children who are intellectually challenged.
· Riding Emphasizing Individual Needs and Strengths
(REINS) -- $10,000 - the grant will fund its
therapeutic horsemanship program in San Diego County
that provides physical, mental and emotional therapy
through carefully supervised horseback riding to
150 youth with a wide range of disabilities.
· LETMESAIL, INC. -- $5,000 - for equipment
and athlete expenses for its fall 2008 youth flag
football program held at College of the Canyons’
Valencia campus.
